What can you explore in Tulamben?
Located just 30 meters from the beach in Tulamben, the famous World War II wreck was previously a cargo ship that remains awe-inspiring despite being broken into pieces. With a length of 120 meters, it sits on a steep sandy bottom caused by the volcanic eruption of Gunung Agung in 1963. Although damaged, the wreck is completely covered with diverse corals and serves as a habitat for hundreds of fish species.
Coral Garden
Located just a short distance from the beach, this dive site is a stunning coral garden with a gentle slope that stretches from the surface to 18 meters deep. It is home to a diverse range of marine species, including reef fish, nudibranchs, beautiful blue-yellow ribbon eels, and juvenile white-tip reef sharks commonly found in the shallows. This site offers superb snorkelling views with no moderate current to contend with.
The rugged wall reef extends out to sea, with the wall descending over 70 meters. Black, soft, and hard corals flourish in the crannies and overhangs around 18 meters deep. Cleaner shrimps abound, with large fish congregating in the overhangs, waiting to be cleaned. A diverse array of schooling fish can be observed around the corner of the wall, while invertebrate animals are also commonly encountered at this location.
Just a few meters from the beach lies a small wooden shipwreck that stretches approximately 10 meters long and rests at a depth of 3 meters. This dive site is surrounded by beautiful coral gardens and adorned with vibrant Christmas tree worms, soft corals, gorgonians, and black corals. Divers can observe a diverse range of big and small reef fish species that have found a home within the wreck, making this site particularly unique.
