Day by day: Your Open Water Training Journey
Experience the perfect balance of theory, practice, and exploration while learning to dive in Bali.
Follow each step with your instructor in Amed, from your first skills in shallow water to open ocean dives and final PADI certification.
DAY 1
You’ll begin with the PADI eLearning program, which can be completed online before your arrival in Bali or directly on-site with your instructor. This first day is all about understanding dive theory, equipment basics, and safety procedures. In the afternoon, you’ll head to a swimming pool or shallow bay in Amed for your confined water training. Here you’ll practice essential skills such as breathing underwater, clearing your mask, and basic buoyancy — all in a calm, controlled environment to build comfort and confidence.
DAY 2
On your second day, you’ll make your very first ocean dives. Jemeluk Bay is ideal for beginners, with calm seas, gentle sandy slopes, and plenty of colorful reef life. You’ll complete two dives here, guided closely by your instructor, while practicing buoyancy control and key underwater techniques. It’s often the most exciting moment of the course — your first real exploration of Bali’s underwater world.
DAY 3
The final day takes you to Tulamben, home of the legendary USAT Liberty wreck — one of the easiest and most spectacular dives in the world for beginners. Depending on sea conditions, you may also explore nearby coral gardens. You’ll complete two more open water dives, focusing on navigation and refining your skills. After your final review and instructor’s approval, you’ll officially earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification, recognized worldwide — your passport to dive anywhere across the globe.

Recommend the Dive Culture diving centre which was recommended to me by a diving centre in a neighbouring town. I had two day’s of fun dives including the wreck of the USAF Liberty in Loïc’s safe hands. Thanks: I have enjoyed myself.

We spent 3 days diving with Dive Culture in Amed and had a great experience. The team was professional, very flexible, and made everything easy from start to finish. Amed is an incredible place to dive, but 3 days felt way too short to really see it all. Hope to be back soon with Dive Culture!
